Bollywood's critically acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has consistently been open about the challenges his films have faced at the box office. In a recent interview, the director elaborated on why he has refrained from pursuing projects with major stars like Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan. He emphasized that it's difficult to undertake daring creative experiments with such renowned celebrities due to their substantial and devoted fan bases. In a chat with Puja Talwar, the Gangs of Wasseypur maker said "Though I came here to make films, there was a time when I succumbed to it (the habit of chasing stars). Everybody was telling me. Without stars you are doing this... imagine what you will do with stars'. That's when the tide turns the other way and the slide starts." Kashyap further adds "If you don't cater to their fanbase while working with a star, they will cancel you. And, my film did get cancelled because I was making my own movie. The director went on to highlight that Indian fans are incredibly passionate, and he clarified that individuals like SRK or Salman cannot afford to disregard their devoted fan base.
